Hot on the tails of last weeks mention of a certain Steve Penk, I was listening through a few old recordings on the look out for bits to include in this feature.
I’ve a cassette of recordings of various radio stations in South East England made in the week commencing 25th August 1997, which happens to be the week before Princess Diana’s death.
First ten minutes of the cassette is a certain Mr Penk and his trademark wind-ups. On this aircheck he his presenting the breakfast show. Now 1997 is solidly Chris Tarrant breakfast show territory. So in lack of any specific date I can only suggest it is likely to be the Monday or Tuesday of the week. Monday being August Bank Holiday. It would seem that this was either the Bank Holiday breakfast show, or that Penk was deping for Tarrant while he was on holiday.

Apologies for the lack of perfect reception on this recording, as it was recorded in Basildon which is slightly outside of Capital’s service area. Also hat-tip to radiothings.com for the picture.
This is week three of my sound archive posts.
