At various conferences and events I attend I have posted a series of 'live blog' style Tweets/Posts on X.
Given that X posts are no longer publicly available without an account, and many people prefer to avoid the platform, I have reproduced verbatim below my tweets from the Radio TechCon event on 25th November 2024.
I have left in errors from the original post, and there will be some formatting errors due to the manual process of converting the content, further edits will be made in the future to fix these formatting errors and to embed the couple of missing video clips (once I work out a simple way of doing this.)
The main purpose of this is to 'archive' the content in an hopefully more secure and accessible location, thus I have retrospectively set the published date of this post to the original event date to aid search. The majority of the sessions have since been published on the organisers YouTube channel and some of my thoughts on the event I may publish separately in the future (after I've refilled the coffee machine!)

A couple of tributes in memory of some radio engineers who have left us. #radtechcon

Women in Comms Anne Locker from @The IET​. Only 15.7% of engineering and technology are women.

Looking into history including women involved in amateur radio in 1920s and notes woman employed at BBC from the start including unusually for the time married women.

If you wanted wireless receiver in the home it had to look like furniture. Notes the value of looking into history as women have always been interested in engineering and radio.

Next up Bauer Media studio move to the Lantern. Some impressive numbers. #radtechcon

Fully AoIP. CTA two floors down from studios, all fibre links. Multiple brands in any studio. Audio first video very close second. Lot’s of glass windows look nice, but they wanted some half decent acoustics #radtechcon

Windows tablets running Axia pathfinder soft panel for presenter headphones locations cheaper than dedicated hardware panels.#radtechcon

CTA kit largely preconfigured and installed after most studios built, plus lots of problems with generators @David Boulton gets mention for working magic.

Afternoon session time, while the sun has come out outside, back in the theatre for BBC Radio 2 new studios not in VR but IRL.

Talk through old studios and the  piano room (is that the room with the piano or the meeting room with that name or the one down the road….)

Next up looking at speech to text, starts highlighting bias in AI

Final segment now.

Measuring mobile streaming with BBC with a special version of BBC Sounds app with extra telemetry.

Comparing 2 different mobile networks across the sample of volunteers with the modified Sounds App.

Next session covering a 8.1 surround sound project

No doubt this mobile phone clip won’t do the sound design justice.

No input mixing using a mixing desk feedback loop.

So next time I’m doing a PA and annoy people with feedback I’ll just tell them I’m a musician as well now.
